EXCLUSIVE: Had No Political Pressure To Become BCCI President, Says Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly revealed that he had never expressed his aspirations for the post and was not aware of his name being considered for the job until the night on Sunday

India former captain Sourav Ganguly, affectionately known as 'Dada', is regarded as the man who truly transformed the face of Indian Cricket by giving it raw emotions. At the age of 47, almost 20 years after he first captained team India, Dada arrived at the BCCI office on Monday to file nomination for the BCCI president post, 'unopposed' and is all set to take over Indian cricket's top administrative job. In an exclusive interview to ABP News, Sourav Ganguly revealed that he had never expressed his aspirations for the post and was not aware of his name being considered for the job until the night on Sunday. " I had never expressed any kind of  aspirations to become the BCCI President and i never spoke or requested anyone regarding the post. Especially with me, good things happen in my life in such manner every time." said Ganguly. When asked whether there was any sort of political pressure on him, Ganguly replied there was no pressure on him to become the next BCCI President. " I thank Anurag Thakur and Amit Shah - if he had any role behind my selection. Even when i met Amit Ji for the first time, we never discussed anything. You have to understand that a person is selected for a position after members vote and i thank everyone who voted for me. Absoultely, there's no pressure on me." said Dada. "This Board belongs to everyone and i will try my best to co-ordinate well with others. Playing for India, till date, is the biggest achievement of my career and nothing can beat it."added Ganguly. Sourav Ganguly is the 1st India cricketer in 65 years to become BCCI president and 2nd only India cricketer to serve as the president of BCCI. Team India is among the favourites to clinch the 2020 T20 World cup next year in Australia. When asked what efforts will Ganguly do in his limited time period of 10 months to help team India overcome the heart-breaking loss of WC 2019 and win the 20 overs mega-event, Dada replied," strategy for such big events is not made in board rooms". "I will have a word with Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli and will tell them to be under no pressure. Just look at the stats of Virat, he is the pride of our country and i believe that the team management will take good steps in further development of team.", he singed off.
