IND vs BAN, 1st Test, Tea: Shami Snares 2 In 2, Leaves Bangladesh Reeling At 140/7

The tea was called after Shami took back to back wickets, reducing Bangladesh to 140/7. Liton Das was batting on 21 and will be joined by Taijul Islam after the team break

Bangladesh yet again surrendered against the potent Indian bowling attack in the second session of the Indore Test on the opening day. The visitors managed to add 77 more runs to their 1st session score but lost 4 crucial wickets as well. The tea was called after Shami took back to back wickets, reducing Bangladesh to 140/7. Liton Das was batting on 21 and will be joined by Taijul Islam after the team break. Resuming the innings at 63/3, Bangla skipper Monimul Haque and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim tried anchoring the innings against the Indian bowlers. A couple of dropped catches favoured them in churning out some runs but they couldn’t survive long enough. Ashwin struck in the 38th over and rattled the stumps of Haque, putting an end to the 68-run run stand for the fourth wicket. Despite this loss, Rahim held the nerve and got the company of Mahmudullah at the centre. The duo could add 16 more runs before Ashwin gave another jolt and took down the latter. Shami came into the attack and further hurt the visitors. In the fifth delivery of the 54th over, the speedster rattled Rahim's stumps with a searing inswinger that pitched outside off and came back in sharply to bamboozle the batsman. In the very next ball, Shami trapped new batsman Mehidy Hasan in front to go into the break on a hat-trick. Earlier, Bangladesh were 63/3 at lunch after electing to bat first. It was a brave decision in the first place, but the fact that Indian pitches tend to turn square from the third evening onwards would have seen the visiting skipper Haque make the call and the Indian bowlers were at the top of the game from the word go. The pace bowling trio of Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Shami finished with a wicket apiece in the first session of the opening day, but more importantly, they kept bowling a testing line and length. In fact, Kohli bowled ace spinner Ashwin for just four overs as the pacers kept piling the pressure on the Bangladesh batsmen.
