IND vs AUS, 1st ODI: David Warner Becomes Fastest Australian To Register 5000 ODI Runs

Warner pulled Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah with utter disdain to get to the 5000-run ODI  mark in his 115th ODI innings.

Australia's explosive opener David Warner on Tuesday added another feather to his cap as he became the fastest Australian cricketer to register 5000 runs in one-day internationals. The hard hitting stroke-maker achieved the feat during the first ODI match of the three-game series against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Warner pulled Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah with utter disdain to get to the 5000-run ODI  mark in his 115th ODI innings. With that he surpassed former cricketer Dean Jones, who had reached the feat in his 128th innings, to become the fastest Aussie to 5000 ODI runs. Overall, Warner became the fourth-fastest to the mark after South Africa's Hashim Amla (101 innings), and joint-second Viv Richards and Virat Kohli (114 innings). Warner has been in superlative form in all forms of the game ever since serving a 12 month ban after his involvement in the Sandpapergate ball tampering controversy in the Cape Town Test. In reply to India's 256 run target, David Warner and his opening partner Aaron Finch stitched a century stand to give the visitors a realistic chance of getting past the below par total at Wankhede. With ten wickets in the kitty, the visitors would fancy their chances of winning the game and taking a 1-0 lead in the 3 match series.
