Ishant Sharma who usually makes headlines with his bowling heroics, made a handsome contribution with the willow by scoring his maiden Test fifty in the second Test match against the West Indies at Jamaica on.
The tall and lanky seamer's half ton helped India post an imposing total on Day 2 of the ongoing sesond and final Test. Ishant scripted a record of sorts while registering his maiden half ton as he became the second slowest cricketer in Test history to achieve the landmark.
Playing in his 92nd Test, Ishant who took 126th innings to notch up his maiden fifty, now ranks second in the list of batsmen with most innings before maiden Test fifty. England seamer James Anderson leads the list as he took 130 innings to score his first Test half-century.
After leading the bowling efforts for India in their win in the opening Test at Antigua , Ishant showed that he is no mug with the bat and has the ability to make a notable contribution to the team with the bat too. Every boundary from Ishant's bat brought smile to his captain Virat Kohli's face, who was applauding every run scored by his Delhi teammate from the pavilion.
Prior to this, Ishant's highest Test score was 31 not out, which he scored against Sri Lanka in the 2010 Galle Test. He had also made 31 runs against Australia in the Mohali Test in the same year but he was dismissed on that score.
Coming to bat at No. 9, Ishant stitched a game changing partnership with Hanuma Vihari to help India post an imposing 416-run total against the Windies on Day 2 and sieze the advantage in the match. Seamer Jasprit Bumrah then produced a fiery spell to run through the Windies batting lineup and reduce them to 87 for 7 at the Stumps on Day 2.
