Lockie Ferguson Believes Kiwis' Heartbreaking WC Loss Will Inspire The Next Set Of Black Caps

New Zealand World Cup hero Lockie Ferguson believes that his national team's heartbreaking WC 19 loss would inspire the next generation of the Black Caps

The grand finalé of ICC World Cup 2019 turned out to be the best-ever decider in the history of the game. Both the teams scored the same amount of runs at every stage but England were crowned the winners on the basis of their superior boundary count - 22 fours and two sixes to New Zealand's 16 - after both the regular match and the Super Over ended in a tie. New Zealand World Cup hero Lockie Ferguson believes that his national team's heartbreaking WC 19 loss would inspire the next generation of the Black Caps. "It was one of those games you really wanted to stand up and play a good game, and have your team get the win," Ferguson told ICC 360. "To look back on it, it's tough and probably not going to sink in for a while. But at the same time, to get to a final like that and put on a performance like that, hopefully we can inspire the next set of Black Caps, and (hopefully) one day we'll get the trophy," he expressed. Ferguson, who had finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker with 21 scalps, further said: "New Zealand has got a rich history of successful sports teams. Of course, the All Blacks and the Black Caps are growing up too, you know. (They're) always punching above their weight, and I think that's inspired me as a kid to play for my country." New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson had revealed that his men were shattered after failing to win the World Cup. "Obviously it's devastating. They've performed at such a high level through the tournament," Williamson said. Williamson, gracious in defeat, accepted fate. "That was a bit of a shame, wasn't it? You just hope it doesn't happen in moments like that. You can nitpick, but perhaps it just wasn't meant to be for us. It is perhaps tough to review the match, and such small margins," he said.
