While Rohit took 137 innings to reach the milestone, former South African opener Hashim Amla, whose record Sharma broke, achieved the 7000-run milestone in 147 innings

India vice-captain Rohit Sharma on Friday registered a major batting record in his name as he become the fastest opener to reach 7000 runs in ODI cricket, overtaking Hashim Amla and Sachin Tendulkar to reach the milestone. The 32-year-old Rohit who opened for the hosts in the second of the three-match ODI series against Australia at Rajkot  required 23 runs before the match to reach the milestone. Australia skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and invited India to bat in the 2nd ODI at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot as India hope to draw level in the series after being handed a 10-wicket loss by the Aaron Finch-led side.
